Is getting a loan a possibility?
I am wanting to buy a mid19th century brick plantation home. It's sits on 3.8 acres. A contractor has inspected the place and says that the house is very sturdy. The interior walls are nothing but the studs. It has the original windows (28 tall ones) which all need replaced. The electric wiring, plumbing, furnace and water heater are brand new--never been used. There's $36,000 worth of work to be done on the interior...just enough to make the house liveable. The brick work is going to be $28,000. The house with the land is selling for $40,000. My credit score right now is 599 (fair) and my boyfriend makes enough to cover a $500/mo pmt. Our rent right now is $500 and we'd move right into that house so we'd only have the one pmt. There are some other necessities we'd need to get for that house...like sinks and toilets since they didn't have indoor plumbing back then. So, I guess we'd be looking at trying to get a $150,000 loan.
Yeah just get the property appraised and go to the bank.

How much to finish partially built house?
I am looking at purchasing a house in Alabama that was never finished. The house is 2000 square foot with a full basement. The house has been completely framed and has a roof. The wiring and plumbing has been ran and the insulation has been installed. It still lacks sheetrock, flooring, appliances, and brick work. Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate as to what it might cost to finish it? Thanks!
Kind of like asking how high is up. Without a lot more detail there is really no way to estimate your cost. You may be able to get a ball park figure by finding a finished house in your area that has sold recently and subtracting what you will be paying from what the finished house sold for. Without knowing what kind of flooring, what kind of appliances, how much detail in the brick work, what kind of light fixtures, etc. there is really no way to estimate.
