How does one go about getting model home cleaning jobs?
I've been a professional cleaner for 18 years and would like to add model homes; however, because they're empty, who do you contact - the builder, contractor, real estate company? And how? by brochure, business card, personal visit? Any suggestions on what to put on a brochure or flyer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your marketing materials should be professional, even if it's black & white on 1/4 sheet of paper. Buy a website domain (godaddy.com) and have a simple website with your phone number on it if you don't have this yet. Business cards can work, but the feeling is more obligatory if you present a nicer cardstock paper to someone- (a good marketing design page is www.benanglin.carbonmade.com).
Approach the on-site sales agent at a new community first. They will give you the run around about how they only take bids at certain times of the year, but at least you've given them your number. They WILL consider you if they are not pleased with their current cleaner (or if you offer to do the first two-ish jobs for free as an "audition period").
Then, approach the construction workers on site and make friends with them! Maybe bring a bucket of cold cokes! Give them your information cards and ask if they would introduce you to the Superintendent- THAT is who has the most influence in deciding the cleaning company. Ask him if he would at least consider you as a backup (never hurts to have someone on call for when the other cleaners are spread too thinly).
Realtors are a good source too, but you will not get new model homes, but investment homes or resale homes will be provided (cleaners are ALWAYS needed for these things!).
Lastly, on your marketing, I would include words like "reliable, reasonably priced, experienced." Remember- shiny and pretty beats wordy and boring!

How do i fix a wing mirror for a t-reg ford escort estate?
Someone has knocked off the wing mirror to my ford escort estate (T-Reg i think it's the 1998 model?) and it's hanging on by the wires used to operate it. I am going to (attempt) fit it on myself, i was wondering how is this done and how difficult it is for someone with little experiance to fit it? It's a mechanical wingmirror and NOT an electric type. Preferably idiot proof instructions, but any help will be much appreciated.

Ok I did this once on a R reg Escort.... you will need to find the screw that hold the door inner panel on- from memory two at bottom of panel, maybe two on front and backside. Behind a plastic cover on the door handle is another screw that must come out and aslo behind a plastic cover on the door arm rest thingy. The top bit (where it meets window) has to finally be unhooked off of clips with an upward motion. When the door panel is off the retaining bolts that hold the wing mirror on can be seen on the inside of the door. From here it is simple the three bolts just unscrew and off it comes. The mirror unit comes off with the black triangle bit attached to it as a whole. Refitting the door panel simply involves hooking it back on the upper clips andpushing down then doing the screws up around the panel.
This will only be useful if you want to completely remove the mirror but I hope it helps. In terms of difficulty it is pretty much foolproof. Only difficulties I can envisage is the door panel clips fall off (easy to put back if you can find them on floor) or you lose a screw/s. Basically very very hard to mess up on this one.
