And you can take it up the food chain too. Why compare a Vette to a Cobra when the Vette costs a good bit more. I am talking about Vette's of the same year models as the Cobra. Buy a new Z06 and a new GT500 (and by the way I can't stand the Shelby's so I'm not taking up for them) and you will spend less on the Shelby and with a few simple mods can kill a ZO6 and still come out cheaper. Yes the Vette is badass but performance wise its price over the GT500 is not justified.

If all we cared about was best bang for the buck, we'd all be driving stripped out Civics or 5.0's with nitrous LoL ;) The Terminator and C5 Z's are truly awesome cars for the money right now!

Yeah but you can take that argument all the way down the food chain. Why not buy a used 5.0, build the engine and turbo it and beat the hell out of the Cobra for a lot less money? Why isn't that a better deal then the Cobra? See the point? And you could replace "used 5.0" with anything in that sentence - a stipped boosted Civic, Head/Cam/Supercharged LS1 F-body, etc. All cars you can get and build to be faster much cheaper than the price of a used Cobra/Z06 right now.

After that 3rd run, did the guy in the Cobra driver get a headache from that s/c. i know it was giving me one. having driven a c5, i like small block chevy sound more.

Oh I will agree with that. The argument always stems from Cobra vs Vette even though the Vette is technically a step up from the Cobra. The Vette is a 2 seat sports car while the Cobra is a 4 seat pony car so naturally with the added weight a mustang should be inherently slower than a Vette. As for me I am a family man so a Vette really does me no good but with the Cobra I can still have performance and haul the family around too. If I was single then yes the Vette would be the way to go.

I disagree i thinks thats one of the best sounds in the world is a cobra spooling up.

i love how chevy still builds real motors and ford like to s/c everything.. lol no doubt that a s/c is killer power.. but no matter which you pull for you have to admit the cobra sounds like a wind up toy lol

I've ridden in a 2.76 pullied Cobra and yes they can be made fast on the cheap...My point is that for me anyway, there is more to performance than just a straight line..The handling is MUCH better in a Corvette....The dollar value per horsepower mod potential is a conversation I don't get..I mean when it's all said and done, whoever has the fattest wallet, will have the quickest car...Even if that car is a Gremlin....I hav'nt ridden in a Z06, but my base C6 has a really nice ride quality..

To be honest I'm not bashing the Vette because I do like Vettes, but like the C6 ZO6 ev1 is comparing them to cars that costs a hell of a lot more because they can outrun Ferraris and Lamborghini's so I am making that statement about the Cobra. Compared to the Vette it is a better deal. And you talk about putting $15,000 in a Gremlin to smoke a Vette where I am saying that putting no more than $200 in an 03-04 Cobra will let even a shitty driver beat a Vette of the same year.

Well to be honest with you I don't know about these youtube videos but at the tracks I frequent the C5 Zo6 and the Cobra's were running identical times. Yes the ZO6 costs more but what are you really getting. I've ridden in a 03 ZO6 and I've driven an 04 Cobra and to me the ride is better in the Cobra. Plus it seats four and actually has a trunk. Better deal if you ask me.

I hear that exuse all the time bud on forums..It's beating a dead horse...How about I find a POS AMC Gremlin, drop 15 grand into it and smoke Cobra and Vettes...sounds like a better deal to me....But in the end, it's still a POS Gremlin..

It should be superior. Brand new the Cobra cost about $35k while the C5 ZO6 was around $50k. That's a $15k difference. Buy the Cobra and spend about $200 and rape the Vette. Sounds like a better deal to me.

It was'nt close? I will admit the Z got walked, but many times the guy would let off while the Cobra was still on it giving the illusion of the Cobra putting trainlengths..If a Cobra needs mods to run with a C5Z or base C6..Then IMO we all know what the superior car is..

Heh, lovin' it. A pullied Termy vs a "same year" Z, I'm totally down, and I loved that it wasn't close. No offense anyone! Get mine this fall!! Anyways, it seemed like it only got worse for the Vette as it all went down, that was a real beating, and a pulley is what..um, my boy paid 250 and I think it came with the idler, which I guess helps with grip(to prevent belt slipping) and obviously ya can use ur stock belt, so.. Ya, Cobra's modded, but, heh, man, to so cheaply walk a Z like that, nice!!

thats a vert cobra its probably more like 500. z06's are like 3200 and the vert cobras are almost 3800 i thought.

nm i saw it on the forum posts.... pretty awesome that the cobra won with just a pully and it has at least 400 pounds on the vette... guess thats why i bought one

no offense but your talkin out of your ass... first off a chip on a gas engine basically does nothin.. your c5 is rated at 350bhp (ls1) your not up to 400 with just exhaust.. and a c5 z06 is a bit quick yes than a stock cobra.. but not a base model c5.. it might keep up but it will probably lose..

A heavily modified Cobra? It has a different pulley on it, that's it.

tho its a fact a z06 is quicker and a c5 a hairpin quicker that a stock cobra...a cobra and corvette are some of teh best values in performance cars and are both easily modded and when they are own cars that r 250k
