Porsche 996 Turbo vs. Corvette C6 Z06.

97NeonRT, why would it require more engineering and "brains" to build a a 530, 505 ft lb, 3.6 flat 6, as opposed to the LS7? There's a sad notion that American auto engineers are somehow inferior and only capable of engineering what you see on the road. You do realize they have a tight budget to work with, right?

It's a shame you say boosted Porsche as if they are not "boosted" from the factory. The Vette's engine is of decent design but the Boxer 6 in the Porsche is of more engineering and brains. Anyone can build a 500 hp 7.0 V8 but not anyone can build a 500 hp Boxer 6.

it's not the aerodynamics advantage that puts porsche ahead, it's the gearing. Z06 has two overdrive gears in 5th and 6th

i don't see why people are fighting here, i don't see what the big deal is. both cars are great, stock Z06 will beat a stock 911 Turbo for sure. a modified Z06 can beat a modified 911 Turbo, and vice-versa. it all depends on what kind of modifications each car has got. in this video the modded Z06 lost the race, but will all modified Z06's lose to a modified 911 Turbo? do you think a modded Z06 like the 1100-RWHP Lingenfelter Z06 is gonna lose? i don't think so...
