There are quite a few other german car magazines that put the 997 Turbo against the Vette and every time it came with race compounds to keep up with the Vette. I would love to see a supertest of the Vette with race compounds.

I used to have a Sport Auto abonnement since I live in Germany. I read the Supertest about the the 997 Turbo and there it clearly stated that the car was equipped with race compounds. One or two magazines before an identical 997 Turbo was already clocked on the Hockenheimring with a time of 1:13+ which wasnt that good. porsche then sent a Turbo with race compounds to the supertest where that same car lapped the Hockenheimring in a 1:11+ time. Sport Auto clearly forgot to add the double asterisk

As far as i know Sportauto is only sold in German. Regardless, click their link in the comments, then click Test&Technik -> Supertest. Scroll down the page to the bottom right. Click on "Alle Rundenzeiten aus den Supertests" which takes you to a complete list of their lap times. Scroll to page 6 of 7. Note the 997 911 turbo's lap time. Lap times completed on semi-slicks(actually R-compounds) are marked with a double asterisk. The 911 turbo's lap times clearly is NOT marked with a double asterisk

It clearly states in the Sport Auto magazine that the 911 Turbo did that laptime on semi slicks. Just before that test they had already tested the 911 Turbo on the Hockenheimring with standard tires and a time of 1:13+, in the supertest the car achieved a 1:11+ time with semis. Vette ran on runflats which harm the cars time quite a bit.

Dude, get your facts right. Go to the Sportauto web page and check their listing of lap times. The 911 turbo's 7:54 time was on standard Pilot PS2s(UQTC-220). The manufacturer claim of 7:40 was achieved on Sport Cups which are UQTC-60 R-compounds (true R-compounds, unlike the UQTC-140 Bridgestone RE070). The Pilot PS2s are equivalent to the Eagle F1s used on the vette.

i'm sorry, maybe i'm reading ur post incorrectly, but i thought the fasted lap time in the norchliefe was the ariel atom 500with a 6.53?

Plus, the Z06 needs some decent tires like the ones mounted on the 997 Turbo and GT-R. I`m sure the Vette will then be a few seconds faster on that track.

This video is from the Sport Auto magazine. The Z06 lapped the ring in 7:49 in this mag, the 997 Turbo in 7:54 with semi slicks.

The Turbo was also equipped with semi slicks. The gap would have been even greater if the Porsche used normal road tires, such as the Corvettes.

vipeme1, Time recorded by TOP GEAR for Zonda S was with partially wet track. A Zonda is in another league for performance and price in comparison to a Z06.

Then again being driven by the manufacturer's best test drivers that helped develop the car probably has something to do with the time achived.

the stig got the z06 around the top gear track faster than the zonda. It can't handle, it just goes sideways.

which would you rather drive: a pure sports car that teaches you how to handle a real sports car or a sports car with all of the technology that saves you ass when you're in trouble. no doubt the GTR is a good car but it is not as exciting as a Corvette that can kill you

Nissan's been known to embelish the truth about the GTR times compared with the vette!!! are you a fuking retard. The Japanese are one of the most modest / honest / integral race u will find. If it was a bullshit time why did they video it and give the collective automotive world the website to view it! <- I say CLAIM because GM claimed that they achieved 7:42.9 for a standing start 20.8km lap yet when Sportauto tested a stock C6 z06 the best they could achieve was a 7:49 and that was for a flying start 20.6k lap (the proof is in the video above). Not a single automotive publication in the entire world claimed that Nissan achieved their lap on shaved tires. The engineering editor at edmunds who spoke to the chief engineer during a Nurburging visit confirmed that standard RE070 tires were used and that the car was stock. Yeah i have read all about the cut slick claims , they come from unnamed characters on little known auto forums who have no sources at all. p.s. The 7:42.9 time is the GM manufacturer CLAIM for the C6 z06. ->
