Corvette ZR1 Nurburgring 7:26.4

Author:corvettehwc
Description:I know many people have been very interested in how fast the ZR1 would be at the Ring... Most car enthusiasts are quite familiar with the Nürburgring. Built in the 1920's near Cologne, Germany, "the Ring" is considered to be the toughest and most challenging race track in the world. Over the last two weeks, we have been doing our final tuning and testing there before we start ZR1 production cars. This morning (Friday June 27), General Motors development engineer Jim Mero drove the Corvette ZR1 around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26.4. Jim commented after the lap that conditions were good except for a strong headwind down the main straight and that the lap was solid, but he felt there were a few places he could have gone faster. The car was bone stock with the exception of the communications and safety equipment. The tires were production Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. These tires have been developed specifically for the ZR1 and will have impressive wet traction and wear (tread wear rating = 220), in addition to excellent dry road holding. Chassis alignment and vehicle height were set to factory specs. Likewise, the engine calibrations were absolutely stock, emissions compliant and the car ran on pump (not racing) fuel. The vehicle was exactly like the cars that will be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky and sold around the world later this summer. Despite posting one of the fastest times ever run by a production car, Nürburgring lap times were not an over-riding priority in the development of the ZR1. The truth is, if the only priority was speed at the ring, the car would not be very pleasant to drive on American roads. The ZR1 is an incredibly capable track machine, but unlike most ultra-high performance cars, it is very easy to live with on a daily basis. The timed lap was run with a rolling start, a departure from our previous practice of standing starts. This is more aligned with current industry practice. The lap was electronically timed and confirmed with two hand-held stopwatches. .

They're two different records, smart guy. The Radical SR8 holds the record for fastest "road legal" car, the Viper for fastest "production" car.

did you know go karts are faster than liveable street CARS?

I'm not here to crush any dreams or so but... Current record holder of a "Streetlegal production car around Nürburgring" is: Radical SR8 (6:55) Just as streetlegal as your precious ACR Viper. It has been that for quite some time. Go do your homework...

Really its pointless to discuss which car is faster. People no matter what info they see will cry foul. You got the (Dodge Viper ACR with a 7:22.01) (The Corvette ZR-1 driven by Jan Magnussen 7:22.04) and the( GTR V spec 7:25) Lets all wait for the third party independent testing to see who is telling the truth. But for now, the Dodge Viper ACR is the time to beat.

another retarded american

another retarded american...

Why thank you!

does he actually think we're all dumbasses?

you owned him right there

there is no way a 640 bhp gtr would do 7:15, the zr1 handles and brakes better according to the track comparo and the edmunds review. the only reason the zr1 acr are within 10 seconds of the gt-r is because they weren't taken on an absolutely perfect lap like the gt-r, the acr slammed the limiter and missed shifts so much that low 7:10s are possible and the zr1 has at least 3-4 seconds to improve.

7.22?, offical is 7:26.4

As god as the corvette is the GTR is better i mean cmon dont just look at lap times look at everything else. I love the corvette but the gtr and the viper are better by just a littlegive the gtr 620 hp and it will probaly do 7:15.besides, the gtr v-spec whic is a faster lighter gtr did 7:24

you see a GTR on the street no fucker points and goes WOW!!! they might point and say PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!unless you're an eight year old......jap cars suck

7.22 cry over that you stupid fucking japanese loving cocksuckers, please dont say v-spec or i'll ram my fist down your throat, them slanty eye bastards alway cheat!!!!that 7.25 or 7.29 as i have never seen the 7.25 was a tuned 800+bhp job, so fuck off with your 4x4 piecies os shit

just to let you know the ZR!! ran a 7 :22 last week so the spec v still loses

u 1 dumb bitch it didnt have standard tires and the zr1 is still faster too bad! and better warranty too

your need to fuckin kill your self cuase u one dumb motherfucker

First off, the GT doesn't have 6oo hp and secondly, a GTR will never hold up to driving fast through the warranty period like a Corvette will. You'll get about 10 good launches with a GTR trans and you're done. Have fun doing it though.

u people talk like the zr1 faster then the gtr at NUr....u people must be stupid....how can u compare a car like gtr with 480hp compare to a zr1 with 620hp....and the zr1 beat it by 3 seconds...go back to school when u learn how to compare a car to car and hp to hp....gtr with 600hp well destroy a zr1 any day at NUR...and also the GTR spec v already won the zr1 time....with less horsepower...first run at NUR 7:25sec...and now you people think a zr1 still win..think agian..GTR RULE ZR1...

to grasshopper106, what "Z" do you have, Datsun 280Z!? surely you wouldnt mean nissan "Z" or the chevy iroq "Z" LOL

man that car looks like so much fun to drive.

Stock means that it uses all the base components as a production model car would and NO after market parts. no matter how "fine tuned" it was on the track it was still COMPLETELY stock. Fact: EVERY MAJOR car manufacturer that tests their car on the nurburg makes fine tunning adjustments. The GTR had SEVERAL computer adjustments before they made their official time attack lap. Fine tunning a car is something anybody can do so long as they have the tools and the know how.

That is very impressive driving.

Glad to see my "Z" will smoke that ZR1...

AMEN!
