2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Author:TheCarKid97
Description:For months, Chevrolet has kept the new ZR1 hidden away at their test facilities, with occasional cars being spotted on the road. Now, the ZR1 stats and photos have been released to the public, and we know what a monster it will be. Pictures from Carwalls.com -- taken by Chevrolet Music: Shifting Gears by Lalo Schfrin (yes, it is the Bullitt music) From Chevrolet Press Release Chevrolet officially announced the 2009 Corvette ZR1 -- an American supercar that brings the technology and engineering refinement of carbon-fiber, ceramics and electronics together in a distinctive design. "Chevrolet's goal with the new ZR1 is to show what an American supercar can deliver, at a price that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much -- and does so with exceptional driveability," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. The ZR1's basic stats: All-new LS9 supercharged 6.2L V-8 targeted at producing at least 100 horsepower per liter, or 620 horsepower (462 kW), and approximately 595 lb.-ft. of torque (823 Nm) - Six-speed, close-ratio, race-hardened manual transmission - New, high-capacity dual-disc clutch - Higher-capacity and specific-diameter axle half-shafts; enhanced torque tube - Specific suspension tuning provides more than 1g cornering grip - Twenty-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels - Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires -- P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in the rear -- developed specifically for the ZR1 - Standard carbon-ceramic, drilled disc brake rotors -- 15.5-inch-diameter (394-mm) in the front and 15-inch-diameter (380-mm) in the rear - Larger brake calipers with substantially increased pad area - Standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control with track-level suspension - Wider, carbon-fiber front fenders with ZR1-specific dual vents - Carbon-fiber hood with a raised, polycarbonate window -- offering a view of the intercooler below it - Carbon-fiber roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings with clear-coated, exposed carbon-fiber weave - ZR1-specific full-width rear spoiler with raised outboard sections - Specific gauge cluster with boost gauge (also displayed on the head-up display) and 220-mph (370 km/h) speedometer readout - Only two options: chrome wheels and a "luxury" package - Curb weight of approximately 3,350 pounds (1,519 kg) The specialized components of the new ZR1 work harmoniously to deliver the most powerful and fastest automobile ever produced by General Motors. Performance estimates will be announced closer to vehicle's summer 2008 launch. "Preliminary testing shows the ZR1 builds on the highly respected Corvette Z06 in every performance category, from acceleration and braking, to cornering grip and top speed," said Peper. "It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio and the ZR1's is exceptional -- better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini LP640. In fact, the ZR1 is expected to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph."

Chevy Corvette ZR1: 6.2 Litre, 595lb/ft torque Ford Focus RS 2009: 2.5 Litre, 400lb/ft torque When are Americans going to learn how to design engines? Compare the torque figures and engine capacity.

Dont mean to burst any bubbles but with fuel price a bit high; Will thy still be building this car? Very nice but I saw gas price at 4dollars a gallon today.

the gtr spec v will own this car. and for those that argue HP. the z06 had 515 hp and the gtr beat it in all performance category, acceleration and handling and lap times. a spec v will be somewhere around 530 hp so it will be on par with the zr1 as far as speed, and the handling will be def. better

dude do u have ne idea what your talking about haha.. the z06 has a better time around the nurburgring track.. and if u dont know what that is.. its wheere the best drivers in the world go to test drive new cars and scale our the fastest. the new zr1 had a time of 1.26 which is one of the fastest ever, beat all lambos ferraris porsches ...do sum research

Corvettes are in no way near Ferraris or any other real supercar either. It just doesnt have the handling like the other cars have. Its just alot of power that it cant distribute anywhere other on a long straight way. On a track or a F430 would be miles away. And well it probably cost 4times more to atleast...

The reason for the 100K price tag is GM thought it would never be taken seriously as a competiter to Euopean sports cars unless it was priced competitivly.

Wow! impressive

id rather put a supercharger on an ls7 which is a z06 than a supercharged ls3 that they call a "ls9" which is the zr1.

R u kidding me.. Zr1 all the way

i think id rather have a GT, there just as fast or faster. except they stopped production in 2006, i hope they come back. just think if ford can make a car go 205 mph with a supercharged 5.4 and it takes chevy a supercharged 6.2 l to hit 205. imagine what ford could do with their 6.8!! and i think the Gt is heavier at least its heavier than z06 and still faster

Corvettes are now as good as ferraris,(or however u spell them)Thats awsome!!!

i want it!!!! i have a 03 z06 but this car, WOW!!!!

not so. since the z06 wouldnt be forced induction it would get to max torque and hp far later that the ZR1. plus the ZR1 doesnt have a definte hp rating yet...so it could be over 650. also any brembo pack doesnt come close to the brakes on the ZR1. They are the same kind of brakes as the ferrari FXX

how is the engine smaller? cuz it has less displacement doesnt mean it smaller in size and weight... all ls-series gm small block are the same size as in mass... and you have to take in to consideration that the zr-1 also has a positive displacement supercharge on top of it...i doubt that the ls7 and the ls9 have a big different in weight...

Only 595 lbs. of torque? Motor Trend claimed that it will have 600+... Well it doesn't matter. It'll destroy every Porsche on the planet.

Im not usually a fan of American cars, but I'd have one of those, no question!

Yowza! I even enjoyed the background music from the movie "Bullitt". I just wish they would have started its engine so we could all hear what that bad boy sounds like close up.

it doesnt look better but they both sound the same =/, that is probably still in the works though

i already have, i saw the first 8 =], check out the vid

If I had 100K, this it where it would go!

cant wait to see one of these on the streets

i think the regular c6 coupe looks better

a Z06 really cant compare to the Zr1 though. Yes, you can match the horsepower. But the Z06 weighs a lot more, and doesnt have the stopping power of the ZR1, plus with the slightly smaller engine it drops the weight a tad more, while having more HP. Just a terrific car

Beast like car.

I am a big fun of GM engines they run forever and super reliable...corvette engines are even used for other racing cars like the Ultima Gtr (0-60 in 2.6 secs) and I like a lot the styling of the new vettes specially the gray carbon Zr1 looks evil!
